Employer action against workers

Did you know that no employer can punish workers for exercising their rights under the Code? This includes dismissal, suspension, lay-off, demotiton, financial or other penalty or witholding wages. This is covered in Section 147 of Canada’s Occupational Health and Safety regulations (s.147).

The section also protects workers from threats or actual disciplinary action for providing information to a health and safety officer or anyone working on related things (s.147(b)).

If your employer has threatened discipline or demotion for raising a health and safety issue, contact your union immediately.
